Born in Lagos, Nigeria from Spanish parents, Carlos Ortiz lived in Spain, Lebanon, Australia and currently in Rochester, N.Y. since 1992.
Ortiz freelanced and later worked at the Eastman Kodak photo studios. After that he worked at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle as a staff photographer in from 1999-2018.
In over thirty years as a photographer, Carlos Ortiz has combined the fields of advertising, fine arts, fashion and journalism. This are some of the highlights and awards achieved in the process.

HIGHLIGHTS
Eddie Adams Workshop
Ortiz was selected to participate by invitation only, in this highly intensive photojournalism workshop following the events of September 11, 2001. He was one of 100 photographers from all over the world to be included in a formation of 10 teams competing to capture the best images for each project. The best photographers and editors in the world gave seminars during the workshop as well.
In 2003 Ortiz was selected to participate in America 24/7. It was the biggest digital photography project of its time. From over a million images he had several photographs published in each book referenced above. Some of the best photojournalists, commercial and portrait photographers in the world participated in these book projects. The high-end digital files were uploaded daily from all over the country. Ortiz’s work was highlighted on national and local news sources. A following book series would include Ortiz's work again: New York 24/7 and America at Home.
